How to Turn a New Member into a Lifetime Member

Associations spend so much time, effort, and money attracting new members  but too often, those members are forgotten the moment they join.

That’s a big mistake.

Because that first year isn’t just about onboarding. It’s the moment when you either create a lifetime member or an ex-member who tells everyone what went wrong.

Here’s how to make sure it’s the first one. 

1️⃣ Match new members with established members.

Mentorship goes a long way.

Whether or not you have a formal program, connect new members with experienced, engaged members who truly understand your association’s value.

Most people stay in associations for one reason:

“The relationships I have here.”

Help new members build those relationships early.

2️⃣ Celebrate them publicly and build community.

Stay in touch. Show them where the value is. Help them connect, learn, and see their investment paying off.

Earn that second check and you’ll likely earn their 5th, 10th, and 20th, too.
